What is Piles?
Piles or hemorrhoids are the swollen blood vessels or veins present inside or around the anus (at the bottom of the rectum). Piles is a very common condition, affecting almost 50% of the population over the age of 50. It is formed when continuous excess pressure is laid on the blood vessel, resulting in painful, bloody, and itchy hemorrhoids. They are of two types:
1. Internal Hemorrhoids: These occur when blood vessels in the anus and rectum become swollen.
2. External Hemorrhoids: The external hemorrhoids can be seen and felt on the surface of the anal skin.

Coagulation
This procedure uses infrared light, electric current, heat, or extreme cold to make the hemorrhoid retract and shrink. It causes scar tissue to form, later causing hemorrhoids to fall off.
Sclerotherapy
Your doctor will use this technique to shrink the hemorrhoids by injecting some chemicals into the internal hemorrhoids. This causes the hemorrhoid to fall off and leave the infected area without a scar.
Hemorrhoidectomy
This is the open surgery technique that makes a small cut on the perianal skin to slice the hemorrhoids into pieces and remove them. This procedure leaves a small scar and takes time to heal.
Laser Surgery
Treatment of piles using laser technology is a minimally invasive approach with a high success rate. A focused laser beam is used during the procedure to target the afflicted areas to burn and shrink the hemorrhoids. To stop additional swelling, the laser beam cuts off the blood flow from the enlarged blood vessels.
